Billboard Sizes & Specification
A. CONVENTIONAL
BILLBOARDS
These range from the 4-sheet Billboard
to the Bulletin size Billboard which conform with international standards
(i) 4-SHEET BILLBOARD
The face
panel of the 4-sheet Billboard measures 1.016m (3'4") in width and 1.524m
(5.0") in height. Some flexibility is tolerated in the shape and
appearance of the 4-sheet billboard even though the face panel size
remains constant as indicated. It often has an aluminium frame. The panel
size of the 4-sheet board is the basic unit of all conventional Billboards
as the others usually has sizes which are multiples of the 4-sheet
size.
(ii) 8-BILLBOARD
The 8-sheet
billboard has face panel measuring 1.016m (3'4") * 3.048m (10'0"). Either
of the two dimensions can be used as the height or the width. Like the
4-sheet billboard, it can appear in various shapes and sizes while
maintaining the same face panel size. It also has an aluminium
frame.
(iii) 16-SHEET BILLBOARD
The
face panel of the 16 sheet Billboard measures 3.048m (10'0") in width and
2.032m (6.8") in height. The 16-sheet board made of steel proposed in this
report has a total height of 4.53m with a minimum ground clearance of
2.2m. The ground level from which the clearance is measured is defined for
the purposes of this standardization report as the level of the nearest
existing carriageway.
(iv) 40-SHEET BILLBOARD
Having
a face panel measuring 7.62m (25'0") in width and 2.032m (6'8") in height,
the 40-sheet billboard constructed from steel proposed herein has a total
height of 4.53 and a minimum ground clearance of 2.2m. The ground level
from which the clearance is measured is as defined above for the 16-sheet
billboard.
(v) BULLETIN BOARD
The
Bulletin Board has a face panel measuring 2.896m (9'6") in height and
10.973 (36'0") in width. The Bulletin Board fabricated from steel which is
proposed herein has a total height measuring 5.45m and
2.2m.
(vi) PUBLIC INFORMATION
PANELS
Face width 3.048m Face height
1.016m Maximum height of the panel should correspond with the height of
the bus shelter.
B. INNOVATIONS
(i) ROOFTOP BILLDOARD
The face
panel of this type of Billboard measures 14.63m (48'0") in width and
4.877m (16'5") to allow for a constant spacing of 1.00m between adjacent
frame bracing measured centre-to-centre along the frame height. The total
height of the frame is 7.15m measured from the roof floor and including
the concrete pedestal base measuring 400 x 4000m in plan and 150mm in
height.
(ii) TOWER BILLBOARD
The Tower
Billboard has a minimum total height of 10m. while the face panel measures
4.877m (16'0") in height and 14.63 (48'0) in width. The total height of
the rationale for the Tower Billboard in addition to aesthetic
considerations is to provide the visual effect of the Roof top Billboard.
(iii) INFLATABLES
These are
vinyl-like materials inflated by continuous running external fans to
assume any shape and size. They are usually inflated with ordinary air and
begin to deflate once the fan motor is disconnected or switched off. They
are held in place by ropes called Tethers attached to their sides which at
the other end can be attached to any heavy stationary object such as
concrete blocks, pillars, door-posts, poles etc. When inflated, they are
liable to being punctured or ripped open by sharp objects such as nails,
roofing sheets etc.
(iv) COMPUTER PRINTED FLEXIBLE
FACES
These are vinyl-like materials computer printed
with great precision to achieve very high picture clarity and resolution.
The flex can be frontlit or backlit. Frontlit flex are sticked around
wood or flat steel sheet face panel of conventional billboards and held in
place by a system of tensioned ratchet straps. The lighting system is
placed in front of the panels at the base. Backlit Computer printed flex
are encased in aluminium frames which have concealed lighting in them.
Their effect is very dramatic. Computer printed flexible faces are
wholesome and environmental friendly additions to Outdoor Advertising
Practice. The largest size of the frontlit variety measures 48'(14.63m) in
width by 16' 94.88m) height. The most common size measures 36 (10.97m) in
width by 12' (3.66m) in height. backlit flexible can be 8 sheet or 4 sheet
or even smaller in size.
(v) DYNAMIC VISUAL DISPLAY UNIT
These are wall mounted or free standing
Visual Display Units often encased in an aluminium frames in which the
picture is constantly changing. This innovative form of outdoor
advertising potent is complex and requires a lot of maintenance.
